Eddie Hearn gives surprising Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul fight prediction

Eddie Hearn has given his prediction for the upcoming Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul fight. Fury finally looks set to get his chance at fighting Paul on August 6 if issues surrounding his entry into the US can be resolved.

As it currently stands, the fight is in some doubt - with Fury having been denied a visa to enter the United States. However, the 22-year-old Brit has stated he'll be doing all he can to sort the issue out so he's able to fly to New York with still six weeks to go until the fight date.

The bout is taking place at the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York. Amanda Serrano has been announced as a dual main-event for the night after Paul co-promoted her fight with Katie Taylor at the same venue.

The original fight was due to take place in December, but that was cancelled by the Fury camp with Tommy citing both illness and injury as the reason for his withdrawal. He was replaced by former UFC star Tyron Woodley for the fight which Paul won to extend the unbeaten start to his boxing career to 5-0-0.

Meanwhile, Fury fought on the undercard of brother Tyson's heavyweight championship win over Dillian Whyte at Wembley on April 23. He beat Daniel Bocianski to continue the unbeaten start to his career and also took his opportunity to send a message to the 25-year-old American.

Hearn previously co-promoted the Serrano and Taylor fight in New York back in April, and although he remains somewhat friendly with the American star, he has downplayed his abilities as a boxer.

However, he gave a surprising prediction on who he thinks will come out as the winner.

Speaking to Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour, he said: "I think he probably does. They’re about the same kind of level. The problem with Jake is you listen to him and you can’t help being drawn in by the confidence. So I’m now drawn in by the confidence and putting him as a guy who deserves to be a boxer.

"On paper Tommy Fury should beat him easily, but then you watch Tommy Fury and you think, ‘Well actually, you’re not very good either.’ But what is good about the fight is that it’s a 50/50 fight. As long as it’s a competitive match-up, it doesn’t matter, it’s okay to watch.

"And that’s a 50/50, I don’t actually know who’s gonna win. If Tommy Fury loses, it is genuinely the most embarrassing thing that could ever happen to him. And if Jake loses, his career’s over. So therefore, it’s quite exciting."
