Eddie Hearn explains Dillian Whyte's silence since Tyson Fury purse bids

Eddie Hearn believes Dillian Whyte has deliberately remained silent over his shot with Tyson Fury in order to give himself the best chance of becoming world champion.

The 'Body Snatcher' has said nothing about last week's purse bids which were won by Fury's co-promoter Frank Warren who trumped Hearn with an offer worth £31million.

Contracts are yet to be signed for the bout with Whyte now being handed a deadline to confirm his long-awaited title shot with Fury.

Hearn has claimed that Whyte is yet to see a contract for the clash, but the showdown with Fury remains the only "direction" this year.

"He's just chilled and training," Hearn told the MMA Hour. "There's a way to deal with Fury and sometimes going on the quiet side is a decent.. do you really want to get in a slanging match with Fury and use all that energy.

"Do your work, do your training and go and try and knock him out. There are no conversations about another direction, this is the only direction, this is the fight.

"As of this morning, we haven't received a contract. That's not unusual but we don't have it. It's a process you go through. Someone said to me I'v'e gone quiet but I lost the purse bid, it's not my fight to promote."

Hearn was beaten in a bid to stage the fight submitting an offer of £24m which was not enough to stage the fight despite being the second highest in boxing history.

The event is targeted to take place on April 23 with a number of venues short-listed including the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.

Hearn has insisted he holds no regrets over the outcome of purse bids and refused to act on "ego" and bid over budget.

"We would have lost a lot of money and he probably wouldn't have taken the fight," Hearn continued. "We don't get on all the time; I do have a lot of respect for him but you never know what you're going to get.

"Of course I'd like to have promoted the fight, but you put a number in and... I was prepared to lose at that number.

"The minute you start acting on ego is the minute you make a catastrophic error which can cost you millions and millions and millions of dollars.

"I back our guys but to a point where we understand the business. If you start going in with your d*** and you bid £10million over the number... and you look at the bottom line and you've done £5-£10million... well done."

Whyte has waited since 2017 to cash in on a title shot for the first time since he became interim champion.

The British star has yet to return to the ring since his revenge victory over Alexander Povetkin last March.

Meanwhile Fury will go into the fight as favourite and will look to set up an undisputed tilt with Anthony Joshua or Oleksandr Usyk later this year.
