Eddie Hearn expects Tyson Fury vs Derek Chisora to flop due to record TV price

Rival promoter Eddie Hearn believes that Tyson Fury and Derek Chisora's trilogy fight next month will be a pay-per-view flop after it was announced that the bout will cost fans £27 to watch on TV.

The heavyweight trilogy is already unpopular with fans given Fury has already comfortably beaten Chisora twice in their previous meetings, and the PPV price has angered them further. Tickets have reportedly sold well for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium bout, but Matchroom Boxing boss Hearn believes the event won't draw well on TV.

Chisora has fought under Hearn's banner for his last few outings, including a victory over Kubrat Pulev on DAZN in July. But after losing three of his last four and already being beaten twice by Fury, the Matchroom boss believes that he and the world champion will struggle to get above 200,000 buys.

“I think it does between 200,000 and 300,000 buys and they probably need between 400,000 and 500,000,” Hearn told iD Boxing. “Listen, Tyson Fury ’s a huge star and he’s not going to be boxing for small money. I know what Derek Chisora’s making, I think most people do and if the tickets haven’t quite sold as well as anticipated, you’re under a lot of pressure.

“But that’s the job of the promoter and you put your balls on the line sometimes to hit numbers. Sometimes you hit them, and sometimes you don’t hit them. I’ve been on both sides. Always ugly, never pretty when you’re on that side.

"But it’s just difficult, Chisora’s a big name, Fury’s a big star, but you’re relying on people to spend that money at a difficult time.”

Fury generally sells in the region of 800,000 pay-per-views, although he hasn't faced an opponent of this ilk since 2019. His last three fights have been big money rematches with Deontay Wilder and the mandatory challenge of Whyte, who was viewed as a legitimate threat, unlike Chisora

It's believed the event will sell out, which will be Fury's second fight in the UK after he defeated Whyte in front of a packed out Wembley Stadium in April. The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has hosted one boxing event prior, with Anthony Joshua facing Oleksandr Usyk in September of last year.
