Eddie Hearn confirms Anthony Joshua could step aside to allow Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk

Eddie Hearn had confirmed Anthony Joshua could step aside and allow Oleksandr Uysk to fight Tyson Fury.

Joshua has been negotiating his rematch with Usyk and had been expected to announce an April date at either Wembley or the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

And Fury is due to face Dillian Whyte in a mandatory defence of his heavyweight belt with purse bids due on Friday.

But Fury's promoter Bob Arum has claimed talks are ongoing over an undisputed fight between Fury and Usyk in the Middle East.

And Hearn has confirmed Joshua could be paid to step aside.

"It's true," Hearn told Boxing Social when asked about Arum's recent comments. "We're right in the midst of those negotiations as well.

"I think he also said he's not very confident that will happen, I still think there's a chance of that, we're still moving towards Joshua-Usyk and Fury-Whyte.

"But there are still people who would like to see Usyk fight Fury and there is a lot of money there for it.

"And if there's a lot of money in the pot and everybody can be taken care of and more importantly a plan can be put in place for those fighters then there is a chance of that happening then it's time.

"These are conversations that started a month ago, but they're also very complicated conversations that take time, but right now AJ is focused on fighting Oleksandr Usyk.

"If those discussions resurface, and things can change very quickly, then we would entertain those but as Bob says, the likely scenario is the alternative move.

"It's hard to say a week or two weeks, but it's imminent - there's supposed to be a purse bid [for Fury vs Whyte] on Friday!

"We'll see if that takes place, but obviously these conversations have been ongoing for a long time and things change very quickly.

"Sometimes in this business things can go quiet for three or four days then all of a sudden you're closing a deal in three or four hours.

"So watch this space, expect the unexpected and we'll keep you informed."

Joshua has previously said he is open to stepping aside - for the right price.

"I want to make the smart decisions and if the money is right we would have to look at it but respect has more value than money," he said last year.

"Will I take the step-aside money? If it's a smart business move, will it affect my reputation and respect?

"Will I still get to fight the best fighters? Those are the three things I have to consider."
