Ed Sheeran has praised the people and energy of the North East, after playing the first of two sold-out shows at Sunderland's Stadium of Light.
The pop-sensation took to social media last night after his opening show on Wearside, sharing his thoughts on the city by the sea to his some 17.6 million Twitter followers.
And Sheeran will hope for the same energy when he takes to the stage tonight, before heading off to Manchester for four nights at the Etihad next week.

Taking to Twitter, Sheeran said: "We need this energy at every stop on the tour!" before adding: "Sunderland is where it's at!"
Sunderland's Stadium of Light's official social media pages revealed that Sheeran's initial performance at the football ground was also a record breaker - setting a new attendance score for a gig at any venue across the region.
In a post they wrote: "SIXTY THOUSAND.
"Tonight has set a record for the highest-ever attended concert in the North East.
"Sunderland and @edsheeran - we made history tonight. What a crowd!."
