Ed Sheeran pays himself £47,000 a day after cashing in £17.1 million, his latest accounts reveal

Ed Sheeran paid himself the equivalent of nearly £47,000 a day last year, according to his latest company accounts.

The popstar, 28, cashed in £17.1 million in dividends for the year ending December 2018 – an increase of £300,000 from the previous year.

This means he took home a huge lump sum, which works out to a daily total of £46,849.32, to be exact.

Sheeran's income is likely to be even higher too as the records only take into account his earnings from songwriting, production and recordings, excluding his tour and any endorsement deals.

A statement in the accounts said: “Revenue during the year remained stabled on the prior year due to the continued exploitation of music recording and song writing.

“Going forward the company’s turnover is expected to remain strong but it will be dependant on the artist’s continued success.”

His company, Ed Sheeran Limited, earned a pre-tax profit of £23.7 million – a drop in the previous year from £27.3 million.

Sheeran's Divide tour, which started in Italy in March 2017 and finished on August 26 this year, earned more than £630 million and broke the record for the highest-grossing tour of all time.

When news of his record-breaking feat was confirmed, Sheeran told Pollstar: “I just found out the Divide tour is now the highest-grossing tour of all time, this is amazing!

"I feel very lucky to have experienced all of the wonderful countries and crowds over the past 2 ½ years. Thank you to the fans and everyone who made it possible.”

He also starred as himself in Richard Curtis and Danny Boyle’s 2019 film Yesterday, which is about a musician called Jack Malik who finds himself in a world that has never heard of the Beatles.

The Sunday Times Rich List this year named Sheeran to be worth around £160 million and dubbed him the 17th richest musician in the UK.
