Ed Sheeran pauses concert mid-song to stop fight at Principality Stadium

A video has emerged showing musician Ed Sheeran pausing mid-performance after a fight broke out in the crowd during his Cardiff gig. The incident took place on Saturday - the third and final night of the singer's stop at the Principality Stadium, which saw the Bad Habits singer perform three huge gigs on Thursday, May 26, Friday, May 27 and Saturday, 28.

The footage, which was shared by devlinogorman1 on TikTok, shows him performing one of his most popular songs 'The A Team' until an alleged altercation in the crowd catches his attention. The musician stops singing and playing his guitar, and says: "I can see two lads just about to fight over there. Chill out!"

His quick response amassed a widespread cheer amongst the crowd, as he continued to talk to the two involved in a suspected fight, which was inaudible in the video. Once it was shared on the social media platform however, Ed Sheeran fans were quick to praise the singer for how he handled the incident, while others questioned why anyone would start a fight during a concert.

One account, Ztaeh281, said: "Imagine going to see this guy and starting fights . Lol". Samantha H said: "[Imagine] paying £150 to fight instead of watching him".

TikTok account, Darren Carpenter797, said: "I work in event Security and got to say when an artist helps with crowd related issues makes a big difference and our job easier". Leah xox agreed and said: "I was there last night too! So good that he stopped mid song for this!"

Stevolife also pointed out that the singer had helped during another incident that took place during the concert. They said: "I was there. Such a top bloke. Also got medics for an ill person".

The singer's three-night run in the capital has made headlines for a number of reasons. This was the first time he had performed in Cardiff since 2018 and the first time the Principality Stadium had played host to live music in two years.

Scores of fans poured into city, with one group travelling 16 hours from Mexico - and it seems the effort was well worth it, as the concerts themselves have been hailed by fans as "amazing" and "worth every penny". Friday's sell-out show made Welsh history with more than 75,000 concert-goers - making it the largest gig to have ever taken place in Wales, according to Wales Rugby Union, which manages The Principality Stadium.

The first night of the concert on Thursday saw the singer in a beautiful gesture gift his shirt to an 11-year-old girl who had been pushed into barriers. Meanwhile, some fans saw the concert as the perfect opportunity to ask their significant others a very important question.

Kimberley Wright, 29, proposed to Kyran Ruddock-Owens, 26, during Ed's concert on Friday as she executed the plan she'd been planning for nearly a year while Ed sang one of his most romantic songs. While, Scott Beynon also plucked up the courage to ask his girlfriend, Stacey Layton, if she'd marry him. Thankfully, both partners said yes, making the event an even more memorable moment for the couples.
