Tickets for a sold-out Ed Sheeran gig have been cancelled for emergency service workers, leaving fans gutted as they found out less than a day before the show.
Gig organisers issued an apology after some fans were told their tickets to the concert in Hampden Park, Glasgow, were no longer valid. It’s thought that hundreds of people planning to attend the show were affected by the cancellations, with many left out of pocket after already paying for travel and accommodation to attend, the Daily Record reports .
Emergency service workers booked tickets for the gig using a Blue Light Card, a discount service for members of the NHS, social care sector, emergency services and armed forces. But they were informed by email less than 24 hours before Ed Sheeran was due to take to the stage that they wouldn’t be able to attend the concert.

Concert promoter AEG said that the cancellations were down to too many complimentary tickets being issued due to “unforeseen logistical circumstances”. A spokesperson said that the customer relations team is currently dealing with everyone who has been affected by the error.
The spokesperson added: “We will ensure that those affected will be invited next time Ed plays in Scotland.” But many disappointed fans were left understandably frustrated about the situation.
Community psychiatrist nurse Cat Allan told the Daily Record that she was part of a group of 17 people due to attend the concert, all of whom are NHS and frontline staff who have worked through Covid. She said that she and her colleagues were “annoyed” and “disappointed” by the cancellation.
Cat, 42, said: “It is terrible. They make it sound like they’re going to give back to frontline staff and then they do this and cancel without even 24 hours’ notice.”
She added that one of her friend’s daughters had been left “devastated” by the news. “It is ok disappointing us, but to disappoint the kids who were so excited is not fair," Cat said.
