Ed Sheeran has explained why he’s dug himself a grave in his back garden.
The British singer, 32, opened up about his preparations for the afterlife as he debunked rumours that he had built himself a crypt.
The Shape of You hitmaker shared: “I wouldn’t say it’s a crypt.
“It’s a hole that’s dug in the ground with a bit of stone over it, so whenever the day comes and I pass away, I get to go in there.
“People think it’s really weird and really morbid, but I’ve had friends die without wills, and no one knows what to do,” he told GQ Hype.
Last January, it was reported that Sheeran had submitted plans to build an underground burial place under a chapel on the grounds of his £3.7 million Suffolk home.
However, the musician debunked the claims in the interview and explained that he had built the oratory as a place for him to remember those who have passed away, and has also held weddings on the property.
His comments come after Sheeran was honoured with a special Brit Billion Award as he becomes the first British artist to surpass 10 billion streams in the UK.
The singer-songwriter was presented with the Gold award by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), the record industry’s trade association, following analysis by the Official Charts Company.
According to its data, more than one billion of the streams occurred in the last 12 months.
Three of his tracks are also within the top 10 most-streamed songs of all time with Shape Of You taking the second spot, Perfect at number three and Bad Habits holding on to number nine.
Sheeran said: “It’s wonderful to receive the first-ever Brit Billion Award in the UK for 10 billion streams.
Following the news, he added: “I want to say a big thank you to my fans. None of this is possible without you guys x.”
The seven-time Brit Award winner has dominated the charts across his career, with all six of his studio albums peaking at number one.
