ED raids Kolkata gaming app operator, seizes Rs 17 crore in cash

KOLKATA/NEW DELHI: In what is turning out to be another eye-popping cash haul from Kolkata, the Enforcement Directorate on Saturday recovered more than Rs 17 crore from the premises of Amir Khan, proprietor of E-Nuggets, a gaming app.

The second huge cash pile seized, after the Rs 50 crore recovered from the premises linked to senior Trinamool leader Partha Chatterjee, was expected to go up as the ED team was still counting the wads of notes Khan had hoarded.Stacks of currency notes wrapped in plastic bags were recovered from under Khan’s bed at Shahi Astabal on Garden Reach Road during the marathon search that began around 8.30 am.

The ED accused Khan of stealing money from people’s wallets and erasing all their records from the mobile gaming application E-Nuggets, which was designed for the purpose of defrauding the public.

While not much is known about Khan’s political links, sources in ED emphasised the alleged reluctance of Kolkata Police to register the complaint against him by the Federal Bank and later when the police launched a probe after the intervention of the CMM court, they allegedly did not follow the preliminary steps by acting on the details provided.
