ECHO launches new 'How It Used To Be' series

Merseyside is a place packed with fascinating history, people and stories - and we've all got many wonderful memories of living here.

The ECHO loves delving into our region's past and also has a dedicated nostalgia team to bring you daily stories about everything from lost venues we loved to how different areas looked when you were growing up, as well as archive photos and more. But now we'd like to hear your stories about how life in Merseyside has changed over time.

The ECHO recently launched our new How It Used To Be series, drawing focus to people's own personal stories and experiences of living here across the generations. So far we have spoken to 102-year-old Peggy Maskrey on how Birkenhead has changed over a century, the proud owner of Snips Movies, Dave Wain, about owning "one of the last" movie rental stores in the area, former Cockle Man Mike Penn on working in the business 50 years ago, Jimmy Kewley on life working "on the buses" through the decades, DJ Steve Proctor about what it was like being at the centre of Liverpool's nightlife and live music scene in the 1980s, Casa Italia on 47 years in the city and Alf Ridpath who has lived in the same house for 75 years - but we'd also love to hear from you.

Maybe you worked in your job or performed a role for a number of years or have lived in the same place or house your whole life. Perhaps you have an interesting tale to tell about a lost pastime in the city, a now demolished building or general insight into how life used to be during a specific decade on Merseyside. If you have a interesting memory to share, please do get in touch.
