eBay toys urgently recalled over 'risk of suffocation'

An urgent recall has been issued for kids' toys sold on eBay over a "risk of suffocation".

Irish parents have been advised to get rid of two toys sold online on eBay in a warning by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission. One of the toys is a Luclay waterfall bath mat toy, and parents are warned that the spoon that comes with the toy may pose a suffocation hazard to babies and young children.

The Competitions and Consumer Protection Commission posted the recall online on Thursday and cited a "risk of suffocation" associated with the toy. The recall notice reads: "The product’s blue spoon does not have any opening, divider or scalloped edge pattern and therefore presents a suffocation hazard because the spoon may form an airtight seal over the mouth and nose."

The notice issued by the Competitions and Consumer Protection Commission reads: "The product presents a risk of choking as the seams of the crotch can separate at a low force, allowing access to internal fibrous filling. A young child may place the fibrous filling in their mouths and choke."

The eBay item number is 224210822907, however, the brand, model number, batch number, and barcode are unknown. Parents and guardians have been urged to discontinue use immediately, discard the product immediately and keep it out of the reach of children,
