Easyjet passenger 'violated' after luggage worth £1,250 'stolen' from suitcase

A Bristol Airport passenger has been left feeling 'violated' after he and his girlfriend had items worth £1,250 'stolen' from their suitcase. Craig Smith and his girlfriend Daisy flew back to Bristol with Easyjet on the night of Sunday, June 5 when they noticed the items were missing.

The couple from Backwell returned home from their holiday to Rome and saw that a £350 Fendi cap and a £900 pair of Luis Vuitton sunglasses were nowhere to be seen. Craig says that the suitcase had been rummaged through and someone had gone through the inside pockets, which contained Daisy's underwear and tampons.

The 28-year-old told Bristol Live: "They're both two small things which I presume they just stuff in their pockets. There might be other things stolen which aren't very noticeable.

"If they're stealing underwear as well you're not really going to notice that. But those were two things which were clearly expensive that we've noticed are gone."

Craig said that they were already 'fuming' because they were delayed for three hours at the airport on the way to Italy, and had to pay for fast track security to make sure they wouldn't miss their flight. They were then delayed again on the way back, and Craig says the ordeal has left a 'bad taste in my mouth'.

"It just makes the while situation worse. You don't know why somebody's looking through it, you feel a bit violated."

Craig says that from now on they will use padlocks on their suitcases, but added: "We travel all the time and you are trusting these people with your luggage, and we've never had an issue."

An Easyjet spokesperson said: “We take all allegations of this nature very seriously and so will investigate this with our baggage handler. We work closely with all of our airport partners to ensure our passengers’ bags are handled securely."

Bristol Airport has been approached for comment.
