EasyJet is laying on a record number of summer flights to meet booming holiday demand.
The budget carrier plans more than 1,000 flights a day to and from the UK between July and September, up 8% on pre-pandemic levels.
Flights to beach destinations, including Spain’s Balearic Islands and Greece, will rise by nearly 30%.
Research by the firm revealed travelling is the top priority for families in the wake of Covid. People are so keen to afford their summer getaway they cut back elsewhere.
Nearly 60% said they spend less on takeaways, 42% spend less on meals out and 30% cut back on clothes. EasyJet boss Johan Lundgren said: “There was pent-up demand last summer and that has continued.”
Jet2holidays found 62% of those it quizzed said going on holiday is what they most look forward to.
Value came top, sun second and accommodation third.
Most went on a first foreign trip without parents at age 16, while 8% had their first taste of love while holidaying away.
Jet2 said: “Holidays are hugely important. They’re a chance for fun, for adventure and to step away from the norms of everyday life.”
