Easyjet cancels hundreds of Easter flights due to Covid related staff absences

EasyJet have been forced to cancel hundreds of flights leaving customers stranded and and experiencing major travel disruption.

This comes as schools in Scotland broke up for Easter on Friday and many Scots will be jetting off to sunnier pastures to enjoy a holiday.

More than 200 flights were cancelled over the weekend and more than 60 were grounded on Monday morning.

Easyjet say they have been forced to do so due to Covid related staff illnesses.

An easyJet spokesperson said: "As a result of the current high rates of COVID infections across Europe, like all businesses easyJet is experiencing higher than usual levels of employee sickness.

"We have taken action to mitigate this through the rostering of additional standby crew this weekend, however, with the current levels of sickness, we have also decided to make some cancellations in advance which were focused on consolidating flights where we have multiple frequencies so customers have more options to rebook their travel, often on the same day.

"Unfortunately it has been necessary to make some additional cancellations for today (Sunday) and tomorrow (Monday). We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause to customers on affected flights."

Last week British Airways suffered IT issues and flights and hundreds of short haul flights were cancelled or delayed.

To check if your flight is affected by delays or cancellations, use easyJet's flight tracker. Simply enter your flight number, or the airports your flying to/from, and this will give you a quick overview of the flight status.

You can also log in to your easyJet booking online where you can find the latest updates regarding your upcoming journey.

If your flight is cancelled by the airline, you are entitled to a refund or being booked on an alternative flight to your destination.
