easyJet cabin crew to strike for nine days this summer

easyJet cabin crew in Spain will strike for nine days during this year's summer season.

The Mirror reports the budget airline's attendants will walk out in three phases across the peak of summer, in July. The planned walk-outs will add to the disruption during a holiday season which is already looking set for more chaos.

It comes after Ryanair staff in Spain also said they would strike. As with Ryanair's planned industrial action, the easyJet walkout has been organised by the Spanish USO union.

easyJet staff are set to walk out in phases - between July 1 and 3, between 15 and 17, and finally between 29 and 31. It comes the day after the budget airline announced it would be cutting an estimated 11,000 flights from its summer schedules.

The union is looking for a 40% pay rise in low-paid cabin staff’s basic wage. If a deal can't be struck ahead of the dates, hundreds of crew will refuse to work for three 72-hour periods.

While UK staff are not planning to strike, thousands of British holidaymakers could see their plans thrown into chaos. Bases in Barcelona, Málaga and Palma are likely to be particularly impacted.
