EasyJet cabin crew in Spain to stage nine days of strikes during peak holiday season

EasyJet cabin crews in Spain will strike for nine days at the height of the summer holiday season in July.

The budget airline's attendants will walk out in three phases across the month - between July 1 and 3, between 15 and 17, and finally between 29 and 31.

The planned walk-outs will add to the disruption during a holiday season which is already looking set for more chaos.

Gatwick Airport cut a significant chunk of its schedule at the end of last week while Ryanair crew in five European countries are planning industrial action.

The easyJet walkout has been organised by the Spanish USO union.

It comes the day after the budget airline announced it would be cutting an estimated 11,000 flights from its summer schedules.

The union is looking for a 40% pay rise in low-paid cabin staff’s basic wage.

If a deal can't be struck ahead of the dates, hundreds of crew will refuse to work for three 72-hour periods.

Bases in Barcelona, Málaga and Palma are likely to be particularly impacted.
