EasyJet Bristol Airport cancellations: Airline apologises as more than 30 flights cancelled

easyJet has apologised after more than 30 flights were cancelled at Bristol Airport on Thursday affecting hundreds of passengers.

The airline - which operates 60 routes to and from Bristol - was forced to cancel flights to Paris, Belfast, Glasgow, Alicante and Newscastle on Thursday afternoon (May 26). Many people arrived at Bristol Airport to be told their flight was no longer running.

These issues for easyJet passengers began yesterday afternoon, with flights from Belfast International to Faro and Bristol cancelled while passengers waited at the departure gate. Passengers due to depart from those destinations were also told at short notice that they would not be travelling, reports the Independent.

As it happened: Disruption as easyJet cancels flights - updates

easyjet has now revealed issued with its IT systems as the cause for the cancellations, affecting flights between 1pm and 3pm UK time. It has advised passengers to monitor Flight Tracker to check the status of their flights before heading to Bristol Airport and has apologised for the inconvenience caused. The airline confirmed these issues were resolved just before 5pm on Thursday.

A spokesperson for the airline issued a statement: "easyJet can confirm that the earlier IT systems issues have now been rectified. Unfortunately, they resulted in some cancellations earlier today and while we expect to operate most of our remaining flying programme some may still be subject to some disruption in the coming hours.

"We advise customers due to travel with us to continue to check Flight Tracker for the status of their flight before making their way to the airport. We apologise for the inconvenience caused."

Many passengers have taken to social media to share their frustrations and ask the airline for help. On Twitter, @Benjy1979 said: "@easyjet flight to Bristol canceled [sic] told to travel to Glasgow which I’m currently doing promised hotel confirmation with 30mins still not got, currently stranded please help."

@therealsparkyg asked the airline: "@easyJet Thanks ever so much much for cancelling our flight 4 hours before it leaves. It's the Bristol to pairs [sic] one, what's the reason for cancelation [sic] please ?"

Passengers reported other cancellations at London Gatwick affecting easyJet UK flights, although easyJet Europe flights are also experiencing delays.
