Easyjet apologises to Edinburgh passenger as he 'misses meeting in London'

A plane passenger was left frustrated when his flight was delayed after a cold snap hit Edinburgh.

Edinburgh residents woke up to icy condition this week as cold air from the north brought a flurry of snow, sleet and ice to Scotland. While some hoped for a snow days, others were left frustrated and their travel plans froze.

Digital consultant, Stuart McMillan, travels to London a couple of times a month from Edinburgh Airport. Normally the journey is quite straightforward with an early start and a 6.20am flight to Stansted.

However, as snow flurries fell around the Lothians, Stuart told Edinburgh Live he was left waiting as the easyJet team tried to de-ice the plane on March 9. He said he was delayed for 45 minutes and subsequently missed his first meeting at work.

He said: "We boarded the plane fine, but then we were told we had to wait for it to be de-iced. We were just waiting and waiting and waiting. Then I saw there was only one truck going about. It just seemed like a bit of poor planning, I know the it doesn't happen that often, but I ended up missing my meeting down in London.

"It was frustrating!"

While waiting for take off, Stuart took to Twitter, tagging Edinburgh Airport and easyJet. He wrote: "Seems like you might need to invest in more de-icing capacity. One guy with a can of de-icer really isn't cutting it. Currently sat on EZY232, which is 30 minutes late departing so far."

To which Edinburgh Airport replied: "Snow-one likes a delay Stuart and the team will be doing their best to get you on your way. Hopefully you won’t have much longer to wait."

De-icing planes is the responsibility of the airline and a spokesperson from easyJet commented: “We are sorry for any inconvenience caused by the delayed departure of flight EZY232 from Edinburgh to London Stansted on March 9, which arrived 27 minutes later than scheduled in London Stansted, due to de-icing delays impacting airlines at the airport.

"Aircrafts must be de-iced in line with procedures in order to depart safely. The safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew is easyJet’s highest priority.”
