In a tragic end to the Easter break, a man has died and a woman remains critical after a motorcycle and a car collided on the Bruce Highway.

Seven people were involved in the crash, the cause of which is yet to be determined.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson said there had been five people in the car, including two children.

The CQ Rescue Helicopter transported the 19-year-old woman, who was a passenger on the motorcycle, to the Townsville University Hospital in critical condition.

A QAS spokesperson said critical care paramedics worked to save the 60-year-old rider's life at the scene.

The 63-year-old female driver of the car was transported to Mackay Base Hospital with "moderate" injuries, police said, while the four passengers – a man, woman and two children – were not injured.

The Bruce Highway near the intersection with McNeil Road at Koumala was blocked for about three hours.

A police spokesperson said the forensic crash unit was investigating.

The man's death is the third to have occurred on that section of the Bruce Highway this year.
