EastEnders twist as character comes back from the dead after faking own death

EastEnders aired a death twist during Friday's episode as Jean Slater's love interest Daniel was confirmed to have faked his death.

The new character recently met Jean at the hospital, with them both receiving treatment for cancer.

Daniel recently confided in Jean about his terminal diagnosis, with her desperate to try and help him.

On Thursday she was left devastated though to find out he had passed away, just days on from them spending some quality time together.

With her daughter Stacey having fled Walford after attacking Phil Mitchell, she has been down in the dumps.

Daniel had helped her through, with her opening up to him and finally enjoying his company, so his death left her heartbroken.

On Friday, Kush Kazemi accompanied her to Daniel's memorial service led by his neighbour Mike.

But there was a major twist as neighbour Mike headed outside after the memorial, with Daniel waiting for him alive.

He then confirmed he had in fact faked his death, but there was an emotional reason for this.

Daniel told Mike how he wanted to save Jean from the pain of falling for him only to lose him further down the line.

The character confessed he had fallen for her, as Mike tried to understand his decision.

He said: "I just wanna disappear before she falls properly in love. Save her the misery of having to watch me waste away in some hospice.

"What's the point in that?"

Viewers were devastated by the twist, while happy he was alive, hoping he and Jean would get together.

EastEnders airs Mondays and Fridays at 8pm, and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One .
