Former soap star Nitin Ganatra has said that his family's corner shop was attacked by racist thugs last year.
The actor, 54, - who is best known for having played Masood Ahmed on BBC soap EastEnders for more than a decade - opened up about the incident on a podcast recently.
He stated that the incident was a horrific reminder of the racist abuse that he had faced during the 1980s.
Nitin spoke about their experience with the business on the Made in the Midlands podcast. He said: "Growing up was hard. We had a corner shop that was targeted a lot."
The actor however said that the family "took it in [their] stride," with him stating that they did this because they had thought: "'This is how people behave in this country'."
He however stated that the shop has even been targeted in more recent years, with a relative having been attacked. He said: "The windows were smashed and my brother was attacked last year."
Nitin - who appeared on EastEnders from 2007 until his departure in 2019, said that his family's shop was once attacked by a group of between 25 and 30 "skinheads."
