Eastenders star Letitia Dean who plays Sharon Watts opens up on family loss at ITV Soap Awards

Letitia Dean, who has played Sharon Watts in Eastenders for almost 30 years, shared some devastating family news in her acceptance speech at the British Soap Awards on Saturday evening (June 11). She was speaking having won the outstanding achievement award for her sterling performances over the decades.

BirminghamLive reports that she dedicated the award to her father, who died a week ago. When accepting the award, she told ITV viewers: "I lost my daddy a week ago so this is for him. I hope he is proud."

She added: "This is for my daddy and my darling mummy, I hope you're enjoying your fish and chips." Letitia was presented the award by Anita Dobson who played Angie Watts, Sharon's mum on the soap, until 1988. The pair hugged.

Anita said: "She has been in 2,000 episodes, she has had 237 "doof-doofs", and she has also been landlord of the Queen Vic six times. She has had amazing storylines, the death of her son, return from the grave of her father, and her affair with Phil Mitchell which brought in 23.5 million viewers. She is quirky, funny, talented, glamorous, and iconic."
