EastEnders' Charlie Brooks has shared an empowering video amid reports 'heroin chic' is making a comeback.
The controversial term was first coined in the early nineties fashion industry and characterised by pale skin, dark circles underneath the eyes and emaciated features.
There are reports the trend is making a return - but mum-of-one Charlie, 41, isn't having any of it.
Sitting cross-legged next to a swimming pool, sporting a stunning red bikini, the actress points to her stomach before throwing her hands up in the air, shrugging.
She captioned the video: “Sometimes my weight goes up.. sometimes it goes down.. but I’m LEARNING to love myself unconditionally because I AM A QUEEN. Me and my belly in all it’s beautiful glory. Let’s not go backwards and undo the good work. Heroine chic can kiss my perfectly formed A**."
Charlie's positive post went down a storm with fans with many praising the star for her candidness.
One said: “Well said Charlie. Mental illness is high enough without filling girls with this bulls**t again. Xx”
While another wrote: “You look amazing and an inspiration to someone who goes through the same but not yet reached your confidence”.
Charlie has been open about her weight, revealing she began to get “obsessive” over her appearance after losing two stone for her fitness DVD in 2021.
Speaking to Fabulous, she said: “I crossed over into that kind of slightly obsessive weight loss thing. You know, always wanting to get back to ‘that’.
"I’ve definitely had quite a complicated relationship with my body, never feeling pretty enough or healthy enough, and with the DVD it was extreme.
"I went all in. I felt absolutely fantastic afterwards, but it does sort of open up a part of your brain… and I don’t think I’ve quite let go of that since.”
The actress recently announced her first new role since quitting the EastEnders.
Charlie, who has played the murderous Janine on-and off-since 1999, will leave the soap for the final time this year.
Janine has been at the centre of some explosive storyline, including when she killed husband Barry Evans, played by Shaun Williamson by pushing him off a cliff.
Now, the actress has revealed her next career move as she’s set to leave Albert Square with a bang.
Charlie will star in the National Theatre’s production of The Ocean at the End of the Lane as a character called Ursula.
The play will be on tour for a total of 38 weeks, touring 29 towns and cities, with Charlie performing for at least 21 weeks before her understudy takes over.
