Jay Brown finally proposes to Lola Pearce on EastEnders this Christmas - amid fears it could be her last.
The pair have been dealt some tragic news about her future, and there are fears this could be her last Christmas after she was diagnosed with a brain tumour in heartbreaking scenes. Jay, though, is determined to stick by Lola through everything and he makes that very clear this festive season as he gets down on one knee and proposes to his girlfriend.
Determined to make things special for Lola, Jay plans the perfect proposal and sets about putting it all into action.
Lola wakes up on Christmas Day to find her daughter Lexi opening Christmas presents, whilst Jay hands her a sweet gift too. Billy, meanwhile, praises Jay for sticking with Lola despite her tragic news as he reveals he plans to propose.
With Ben on board, Jay organises a beautiful outdoor Christmas miracle where he can get down on one knee, and show Lola just how much she means to him - and how committed to her he is.
As he drops down on one knee in the middle of the Square and asks for Lola's hand in marriage, will she say yes?
Danielle Harold - who plays Lola - had previously spoken of the importance of the storyline.
On taking on the storyline, she said previously : "It means so much to be trusted with a storyline like this – one that’s close to many people’s hearts. Sadly many of our viewers will be able to relate to Lola’s story and it’s been heart-breaking to speak to the families affected by brain tumours and hear their stories. They’ve been so amazing in sharing their experiences with me, and I’m so lucky to have them. I wouldn’t be able to do this storyline without their support."
Chris Clenshaw, Executive Producer for the BBC soap, added: "It was vital for us to work alongside Macmillan and Brain Tumour Research to take on, and accurately present, such a profound and emotional storyline for Lola, one that many viewers may relate to. Danielle [Harold] has thoughtfully relayed the realities of being diagnosed with a brain tumour with grace and understanding.
"We hope that this storyline resonates with the audience, and that we represent it as sensitively, and accurately as possible."
