EastEnders sign up tragic Jade Goody's son Bobby Brazier as bosses recast character

EastEnders have signed up Bobby Brazier for a new role on the BBC One soap.

Bobby - the son of the late Jade Goody and television personality Jeff Brazier - will be joining the BBC programme in his role as Freddie Slater, who is the son of Little Mo Slater. Bobby already has a number of modelling credits to his name, but at 19-years-old, this will mark his biggest acting job to date.

Bosses have teased that Freddie will cause quite the drama when he turns up on Albert Square, describing him as a "modern day lad" with a "sensitive soul" - but also promising "chaos and mischief" too.

Speaking about his new role, Bobby said: "I’m really excited to be joining the cast of EastEnders - so far it’s been perfect. Everybody has been so beautiful to me and made settling in easier than I could’ve hoped.

"Stepping into the acting world has always been a vision of mine and doing that with EastEnders as a Slater is a blessing, I'm very grateful. Loving every minute of Freddie so far and can’t wait to see what’s in store for him in Walford."

Chris Clenshaw, Executive Producer, has also teased how Freddie will disrupt the Square when he arrives.

"Freddie Slater is a chaotic 18-year-old with a sensitive soul. A modern-day lad who’s in touch with his spiritual side. He’s philosophical, accepting, but full of mischief and makes mistakes," he added, "Bobby is an amazing young addition to the EastEnders cast who brings heart and humility to the role of Freddie Slater and I can’t wait for audiences to get to know him."

Freddie was last seen in Walford in the middle of 2006 when he and Little Mo left the place they called home for a new start elsewhere. Now 18, he has returned to the Square, but it's been teased that his visit could end in heartbreak.

Bobby has been described as "a bundle of energy and a truckload of trouble", with a "heart of gold" but he also can't stop himself from getting into mischief. Sweet like his mum, he also isn't shy, and is ready to cause trouble everywhere he turned?

Does he live up to the Slater family name - and what's his reason for coming back to Walford?

*EastEnders airs Monday through Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One.
