EastEnders' Shirley Carter's fate revealed after Gray left her for dead in horror attack

EastEnders' Shirley Carter's fate has been revealed after she was attacked by Gray Atkins last week.

Fans have been worried for the Albert Square legend - played by Linda Henry - after she was rushed off to hospital with a bleeding head wound, as Gray (Toby Alexander-Smith) attacked her in horrific and devastating scenes last week.

During last week's episodes, Gray rushed into the pub to find cover, but it happened that Shirley was there, having a drink as she struggled with the knowledge he had killed her daughter Tina (Luisa Bradshaw-White) and buried her corpse under the Arjee Barjee.

Understandably distraught by what Gray had done, Shirley attacked him - but not before he fought back and hit her with a bottle, leaving her lying in a pool of blood just as Mick Carter (Danny Dyer) walked in.

Mick was then dealt with a difficult choice, apprehend Gray or try and save his mum. He chose the latter and called for help, as the paramedics rushed in to give Shirley the best chance.

She hasn't been seen in the BBC One soap since the medical professionals carted her off to hospital for treatment.

But now it has been revealed that Shirley is ok, as she walked in on Nancy and some other residents holding a bit of a remembrance gathering for Tina. She - along with Zack - decided to bring together some of Tina's loved ones to remember the special moments they shared with her, but Shirley is left devastated as she walks in to see the gathering happening.

Whilst Shirley is now known to be ok, fans will no doubt be devastated for her as she struggles to cope in the wake of her loss.

Later on, alone with Mick, Shirley told her son just what Tina's death has done to her, as she admitted to him that she is struggling with what's been happening lately and how her daughter was there in the Square all this time.

Mick tried to comfort her, but it's clear Shirley is still struggling to cope with it all.

"It's all getting too much for Shirley #EastEnders," one fan wrote, as they commented on how sorry they felt for Shirley, whilst a second viewer penned in a tweet: "Yaay Shirl’s home! @bbceastenders #EastEnders."
