EastEnders aired dramatic scenes on Thursday night, that saw one show favourite's life hang in the balance on the BBC soap.
A dramatic episode saw killer Gray Atkins finally captured by police, as justice was served for his victims Chantelle Atkins, Tina Carter and Kush Kazemi.
Several residents sought out Gray to confront him as his killings came to light, with Gray himself trying to jump off a bridge when he realised he had nowhere to run.
Whitney Dean manage to stop him, wanting justice for Chantelle and Tina - but what she wasn't prepared to uncover was that Gray also murdered her boyfriend Kush.
Prior to this confrontation, it was Shirley Carter, Tina's sister, who became embroiled in a deadly showdown with the killer.
As Gray ran into the pub amid a police search in the Square, Shirley came face-to-face with the man who killed her sibling and she lost control.
Repeatedly attacking him, she wanted him dead and soon smashed a glass bottle over his head knocking him to the floor.
Following this, she whacked him over the back with a bar stool before trying to strangle him only for her son Mick to walk in and stop her.
He decided the police should punish Gray, not them, as he'd already lost enough family members and didn't want his mum going to prison.
But in comforting her and pulling her off Gray, the pair didn't see him getting off the floor and wielding a chair leg which he then whacked over Shirley's head.
The character hit the floor lifeless, with blood pouring out of her head - as Gray did a runner, with Mick giving chase.
Mick attacked Gray but realised his mum wasn't responding and could need urgent medical care.
This gave Gray the chance to flee yet again as Mick raced to be by Shirley's side and called an ambulance.
As paramedics saw to Shirley, she was soon loaded into the ambulance with bandages around her head.
Shirley remained unconscious with Mick clearly worried about her, but will the character pull through?
