EastEnders’ Rita Simons hints that she could be headed to soap rival Corrie

EastEnders star Rita Simons is in talks with another TV drama series that she’s hinted could be Coronation Street.

The 46-year-old, who plays the bolshy Roxy Mitchell on the BBC soap who is thought to be dead, confirmed today on Good Morning Britain that another show has reached out to her.

When GMB host Adil Ray asked her if it might be a rival, Corrie, which is set in Manchester, the star teased, “I’m not telling ya!" in a Mancunian accent.

He added, vaguely: “All I can say is I’ve left it so the fans finally understand Roxy may not be dead so in the future who knows, but right now, I’m really having a lovely time, not there, and potentially going somewhere else.”

On last night’s EastEnders, the star’s character Roxy, who is meant to have long died, made a comeback in daughter Amy’s imagination.

The scene showed Amy, who struggles with mental health issues, in a family therapy session saying if she could ask her mother  anything it would be if she “ever really loved her."

Imaginary Roxy told her: “You were the one thing that I had, the one good thing. I was fighting for you!”

The emotional appearance incited fans to take to social media to plead for her permanent return.

Simons joined the soap in 2007 and left 10 years later after her tragic accident with sister, Ronnie, played by Samantha Womack.

Back in 2017 wedding scenes, the pair drowned together in harrowing episodes.
