EastEnders' Richard Blackwood booted from MasterChef after show gave him 'nightmares'

Richard Blackwood has cooked his last meal in the MasterChef kitchen after being eliminated from the celebrity spin-off on BBC One on Friday night.

John Torode and Gregg Wallace have been putting twenty celebrities to the test on the BBC show in recent weeks, with Richard Blackwood, Lesley Joseph and Jimmy Bullard left in this week’s heats.

After trying the contestants' final meals, John and Gregg reflected on the line up and ultimately decided Richard was the unlucky celeb to go.

This comes after Richard admitted that his stint on Celebrity MasterChef gave him nightmares, as the actor would painstakingly toil over the hob, adding a pinch of salt here, a dash of sauce there.

However, every time he came to try his dream creations it would turn out to be disgusting and foul tasting.

"You never would have thought that cooking food could turn into a nightmare, but it really does," he said.

"It’s tough. You have sleepless nights, dreaming about dishes that you’ve made or that you want to make. Then whatever the food was, it wasn’t even edible. It was like literally, you just don’t stop thinking about food."

The line-up of this year's series includes former Coronation Street actor Ryan Thomas – who previously won Celebrity Big Brother – as well as Love Island alum Faye Winter.

Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer Katya Jones and former world boxing champion Chris Eubank – who appeared on I'm a Celebrity in 2015 – have also take part.

McFly singer Danny Jones and former footballer Jimmy Bullard have also taken to the kitchen for the competition, as well as former EastEnders star and Hollyoaks actor Richard Blackwood.

Paul Chuckle – who is best known as one half of duo the Chuckle Brothers – and All Saints singer Mel Blatt are also participating in the new series of the BBC One culinary show.

Other competitors in the new series include Birds of a Feather actor Lesley Joseph as well as former model and TV presenter Lisa Snowdon. BBC viewers have also enjoyed appearances from choirmaster Gareth Malone, media personality Nancy Dell'Olio and Rupaul's Drag Race UK finalist Kitty Scott-Claus, as well as presenter and campaigner Adam Pearson.

Comedian Kae Kurd, The Wire actor Clarke Peters, former EastEnders star Cliff Parisi and reality star MoJo have also competed to be crowned the winner of the 2022 series.
