EastEnders Lewis actor Aidan O’Callaghan shares new role before quickly deleting post

EastEnders actor Aidan O’Callaghan has landed a new acting role amid is controversial sexual assault storyline on the BBC soap.

The Irish actor, who plays rapist barman Lewis Butler, shared news of his new role in a now deleted post on Instagram.

Aidan reposted a photo from actress Olwen Fouéré which showed the location of upcoming movie, The Reckoning of Erin Morrigan.

A synopsis for the film reads: "A former IRA assassin faces the ghosts of her past in a final spiritual reckoning."

In the movie, Aidan will play a character named Col and it started shooting in Ireland last week.

Aidan’s movie role comes after it was announced he is set to be involved in EastEnders ' forthcoming male rape storyline.

The attack takes place after Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) has a blazing row with his husband Callum (Tony Clay) and heads to the Queen Vic to drown his sorrows.

While there, he spots Lewis on a dating app and, against his better judgement, decides to message him before meeting him for drinks at the Prince Albert.

Last week fans were left sickened as they watched Ben share a kiss with Lewis ahead of the assault.

EastEnders actor Max has previously opened up about the tough storyline.

"Alongside some wonderful charities, and some very inspirational survivors of male sexual assault in the UK, I think we’ve been able to really strive to tell the most truthful account we can, and I hope we can raise awareness and understanding on a topic that is rarely covered," he said.

BBC head of continuing drama Kate Oates added: " Ben finds Lewis attractive, and thinks of him as a someone who can understand him in a way Callum does not; but that trust is abused when Lewis crosses a line and rapes Ben.

"Through this story, we hope to explore issues of consent, sexual identity, masculinity, and sexual assault, focusing on how this fateful night impacts Ben and those who love him over the coming months."

It is unknown how long Lewis will remain in Walford after the attack on Ben, but actor Aidan has made clear he was only on the soap for a limited time.
