EastEnders legend Jake Wood calls on Coronation Street bosses to cast him in role

Jake Wood has called on Coronation Street bosses to cast him in the ITV soap.

The actor, 50, who is best known for his role as Max Branning in EastEnders, is currently starring alongside Girls Aloud’s Cheryl in the stage production of 2:22 A Ghost Story, but it seems as though he hopes the soap world will call him back.

Although Jake recently called time on his EastEnders era, he has revealed that if he was asked to appear on another soap, he wouldn't turn down the offer.

Jake, who first appeared as womaniser Max Branning on EastEnders back in 2006, left his iconic role in February last year.

And while his time is up on EastEnders, Jake has revealed that he would jump at the chance of playing a part on rival soap, Coronation Street.

"If they asked me if I would do another soap, then I would. When I was a young actor, I did a lot of Northern parts. People used to think I was from Manchester when I was younger – I love Corrie, so if they’re listening, give me a call," Jake said on Loose Women.

While Jake has made it clear that he would be up for a role on the cobbles, the actor has zero plans of reprising his role as Max Branning after an EastEnders viewer hit him with her handbag in the supermarket.

During his time on EastEnders, Jake's character was involved in some of the show's most explosive storylines.

Fans will remember the character's sordid affair with Stacey Slater - who was dating Max's son Bradley.

It was this tense triangle which Jake said prompted the outrage by an OAP.

"I got hit by an old woman with her handbag in a supermarket once. She was telling me to leave Stacey alone.

"That was quite funny really. She didn't hit me hard but I did try and tell her I was there with my family and that I'm not really Max, but I don't think she was listening," he told The Sun.

And after 15 years in Albert Square, the father-of -two said: "I don't feel I have to prove anything and I don't want to be working for workings' sake.

"Whether my next move is a Netflix project or a big film, who knows."
