EastEnders' Jean Slater flees to tie the knot in first look - but there's drama ahead

EastEnders' Jean Slater is set to flee Walford to tie the knot in new photographs.

Actress Gillian Wright - who plays the Albert Square legend on the BBC One soap - was seen filming upcoming scenes in Southend-On-Sea earlier this week, as Jean struggles with her mental health.

In new photos of Gillian filming on location, Jean can be seen running through a seaside fair, whilst her daughter Stacey Slater and Martin Fowler - played by Lacey Turner and James Bye - desperately search for her.

Dressed in her wedding gear, Jean is seen looking frantic as she runs around the location.

Photographs show Jean holding onto her long wedding dress train as she runs past stalls of candyfloss and popcorn, with Stacey and Martin looking around for where she might be.

Her handbag on her arm, Jean appears nervous and worried as she runs around - but who is she planning on marrying, is it her lover Harvey Monroe (Ross Boatman), and will Stacey let the wedding go off without a hitch if she finds her in time?

Jean has been struggling with her mental health as of late, and has been spiralling out of control. She also recently battled with her physical health, having another cancer scare - which thankfully turned out to be ok this time around.

"I think that she’s become stronger through dealing with cancer," actress Gillian said of her character, "She’s become less timid and less scared, compared with how she was when we first met her in the early years. She has more courage."

"I loved doing the storyline [with Daniel] because even though it was a story that was sad, and it could have been doom and gloom, we actually had a lot of fun," she added, "I think that the relationship with Daniel made Jean more feisty, and more confident. Even if she’s wrong, she does it with confidence."

Following the end of her romance with Daniel, she has since found love with Harvey - but will she finally get a happy ending?
