EastEnders viewers saw the arrival of George Knight on Thursday night, and they immediately predicted a major twist.
George was revealed to be the new lover of Elaine Peacock, Linda Carter's mother, and he was moving to Walford to help her run the pub.
Joining him were his two daughters Gina and Anna, and there were a couple of references to the girls' mother.
She wasn't with them and her whereabouts, or whether she is alive, was not revealed.
George took a mystery phone call where he told an unknown character he would be in touch the next day, as now wasn't a good time to chat.
During the episode, it was clear the mother had not been in their lives for a while as the girls secretly had a jewellery box belonging to her.
Gina made a point to Anna that they should not have it, while Anna declared she needed something to "remember her mum by".
The cryptic talk of their mother and not discussing her hinted there was some sort of secret there, and made it clear for whatever reason she was no longer around.
Then, George spoke to Ben Mitchell who was struggling with helping his young daughter Lexi following the death of her mother Lola Pearce the day before.
George gave advice to Ben as if he'd been in a similar situation, explaining his two girls grew up without a mum and it led to Gina acting out as she got older.
He added that he realised later on that all she needed at the time was a hug - so did something terrible happen to George's wife?
Viewers noticed all the hints and immediately predicted his mystery wife could in fact be a past character, who was recently revealed to be returning.
Fans are predicting Cindy Beale, who will return from the dead in the coming months, could have struck up a romance with George after faking her death over 20 years ago.
They believe George will be what brings Cindy back to Walford, ahead of EastEnders confirming her return or explaining what happened all those years ago.
Taking to Twitter, one viewer said: "Eastenders theory: if Cindy is returning, could she be the mother of newbies Gina and Anna and ex-wife of George Knight? Wasn't Cindy's sister called Gina? (Little hint). I could imagine Cindy has been living her days out in Marbella for the past 25 years!"
Another fan agreed: "Ok! So I instantly like George Knight… he’s gonna be a character but I feel Linda going to be right about him though… he’s gonna be upto his eyes in affairs…. and I do think the Knight Family is linked to Cindy Beale!"
A third viewer tweeted: "I think Cindy is George’s girls mum, you wait," while a fourth said: "The Cindy theory seems to be very popular now!! Do you Cindy is the Knight’s sisters mum?"
EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
