EastEnders fans make discovery as Ben hints real reason he's blackmailing Martin

EastEnders revisited Jamie Mitchell's tragic death in the latest episode of the BBC soap, as family member Ben Mitchell recalled how he died - and then there was the revisiting of the time Martin Fowler kidnapped Ben as a child.

Martin accidentally ran over love rival Jamie back in 2002, with Billy Mitchell's nephew later dying from his injuries.

Phil Mitchell, Ben's dad and Billy's cousin, wasn't related to the late character, but he did treat him like his own - while there was a feud between them along the way.

But in the latest episode, as Ben and Martin's feud ramped up leading to violent scenes, Ben made a surprise remark as he claimed Martin was not a good person.

He even hinted the real reason why he's been targeting him, referencing Jamie's tragic demise.

As Lola Pearce warned him to keep Martin out of his dodgy dealings, Ben called out the market stall owner's past.

He told Lola: "Well he ain't [a good guy] is he, he killed Jamie."

As Lola asked him what he meant, he added: "He ran him over."

Lola was quick to remind him that Martin didn't mean to kill Jamie, which Ben knew.

But some viewers only then realised that Jamie was the cousin once removed of Lola, Billy's granddaughter, while the scene hinted this link could be why Ben is so reluctant to let Martin have his life back.

Ben had moved to South Africa the year Jamie arrived in Walford, with Jamie then dying before he returned to the Square - then again, it's all about family for the Mitchells.

As for Lola, Billy only found out she existed much later on so she never got to meet him.

Ben and Martin also mentioned the time back in 2007 when Martin kidnapped Ben and threatened to throw him off a bridge, to get back at Phil.

One fan said: "I’ve only just realised Lola and Jamie are (or at least were) cousins."

Another tweeted: "Plssss not Ben pulling the Jamie card for no reason."

EastEnders airs Mondays and Fridays at 8pm, and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One .
