EastEnders fans were left heartbroken on Wednesday when Lola Pearce asked her granddad Billy Mitchell to help her end her life when the time comes.
During the emotional episode, Lola (Danielle Harold) woke up in hospital with Ben Mitchell ( Max Bowden ), Jay Brown ( Jamie Borthwick ) and Billy (Perry Fenwick) by her side as she learnt her palliative chemotherapy treatment hasn't worked, resulting in her only having a matter of weeks to live.
When Lexi arrived, Lola assured her daughter she's okay and will be well enough to take her to her upcoming school opening day.
However, Lola began to panic when she realised she may lose her cognitive functions as her condition progresses and asks Billy to help end her life.
Billy initially refused but later changed his mind when he saw how much Lola wanted to protect Lexi from the reality of what may come.
EastEnders fans were rocked by the emotional scenes as they praised BBC soap star Danielle.
One tweeted: "These scenes with Lola are tearing me apart. I hope she wins every award for this performance. #EastEnders," while another added: "Lola wants Billy to help her die #Eastenders," alongside a crying and broken heart emoji.
"This episode of EastEnders is gonna break me," a third wrote and another said: "This is gut wrenching to watch. Eastenders really has nailed this storyline. Dealt delicately with such brilliant actors and actresses."
"Lola’s storyline is heartbreaking. She’s bodied this role #Eastenders," someone else shared.
In Thursday's episode of the BBC soap, Jay breaks Lola out of the hospital and they enjoy a day at the seaside before sharing a heart-to-heart.
Lola spots a ruby necklace she hopes to buy for Lexi as a 16th birthday present but later the couple are interrupted by a police office and the shopkeeper as it transpires that the mum stole the necklace.
Next week, Jay prepares for Lola to come home but Ben struggles to accept her prognosis.
When Lola arrives home she's greeted by the residents of Walford as they rally around the family for support.
Later in the week, Lola becomes increasingly low when her speech becomes more slurred and the reality of her prognosis sets in but will she change her mind about wanting to end her life?
