EastEnders fans in disbelief over 'silent' characters Tracey and Winston's rare scenes

EastEnders aired "rare" scenes for two characters on the BBC soap on Thursday, sending fans wild.

Market trader Winston was shown greeting newcomer George Knight, before explaining who he was to fellow resident Whitney Dean.

Also in the episode, "silent" barmaid Tracey got a line in the script as she too met new pub owner George, before pulling a face as she heard Elaine Peacock and Linda Carter rowing.

The pair are normally silent in scenes, most of the time, and it is quite rare that they get a speaking part on the BBC soap.

Tracey is normally shown in the pub, The Queen Vic, where she works, while Winston's scenes normally show him in the pub or on the market stall he runs.

In the latest episode, George surprised Tracey by appearing in the pub as she walked in, with her having no idea who he was and why he was there.

He claimed to have known a lot about her and knew her name leaving her startled, before he went to sort things between Elaine and Linda.

As Tracey walked away she smirked before pulling a face over the row ensuing upstairs.

As for Winston, as Whitney enquired who George was he couldn't believe it, clearly a fan of the champion boxer.

He told her: "You're kidding... that's George Knight!" to which Whitney continued to look baffled by.

Viewers took to Twitter over the moments, sharing their enjoyment over Winston and Tracey getting involved.

One viewer joked: "Extra budget on tonight's @bbceastenders we have had Winston and Tracy both speak a line!"

Another tweeted: "Tracy had a line," with a GIF of football fans spraying champagne everywhere in celebration.

A third fan said: "Tracy spoke two words! Omg!" as a fourth tweeted: "Tracy spoke I’m shocked."

The tweets kept on coming too, with another reading: "winston and tracey getting scenes tonight makes me," with some crying face emojis.

A further tweet said: "First Tracey and now Winston getting some lines, we are being treated tonight!" and another said: "WINSTON SPEAKS."

EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
