EastEnders' Daniel 'returns from the dead' and confirmed as Jean's 'guardian angel'

Jean Slater's former love interest Daniel returned from the dead this evening on EastEnders and was confirmed as the Slaters' guardian angel.

The Panasears threatened to throw the family out after Christmas but, after hearing Jean's voicemail, Daniel turned up to intervene.

During the Christmas Day episode, the Slaters were told that they didn't have to worry about the extra rent because it had been paid for by a "guardian angel".

This evening's flashback episode confirmed that Daniel was, in fact, the guardian angel after offering to pay for their rent over the next few years.

Daniel finally came face to face with Jean, who was almost frightened out of her skin when she came face to face with his 'ghost'.

Which is unsurprising considering she attended his funeral.

"It's a festive miracle," Daniel quipped, prompting Jean to punch him.

Jean asked: "So was it some sick joke? You put me through that. You made me think you were dead. For what? Some twisted laugh at my expense?

"I just wanted to see you turn up to the service, see who my real friends are," Daniel replied drily.

"You really are a horrible, horrible man. You don't care about anything, about how people feel of the damage people do," Jean said. "I never thought, not for one moment... I never want to see you again."

After storming out, Jean screamed in the street. But will she react differently when she finds out he is her guardian angel?

*EastEnders return tomorrow at 7.30pm on BBC One
