EastEnders' Barry warns Kym Marsh to quit Corrie ASAP to save acting career

EastEnders actor Shaun Williamson warned Coronation Street actress Kym Marsh to get away from the soap ASAP.

Shaun, 54, who played Barry Evans in EastEnders, is currently rehearsing for the Elf musical which he and Kym are set to star in.

Kym, 42, plays Michelle Connor in Corrie, but her final scenes will air around Christmas as she has confirmed she's leaving to pursue other projects.

She has starred in the soap for nearly 15 years.

Shaun appeared on Loose Women alongside Kym this morning, and called Kym a "brilliant actress".

But he admitted he worried for her that she would be typecast in the future after not having played a lot of parts in her life.

"I would try to drop the soap aspect as quickly as possible", he said.

He said that he knew when he did Ricky Gervais' Extras that he was being typecast, meaning that he will never have a director hire him to star in a drama now.

So he recommended Kym make her next role drastically different to Michelle, and if she did, he had very high hopes for her future.

Kym was also heralded the "world's most glamorous grandma", as her daughter Emilie, 22, gave birth to a baby boy in May.

The actress goes by "lolly" as her grandparent moniker.

"Emilie's dad keeps saying, 'get a grip, nana!'", she joked.

Kym recently revealed in her OK! column that her playful pet chihuahua nearly blinded her.

She wrote: “As many of you know I’ve got a little chihuahua puppy name Rico.

“He’s very playful and likes to stroke your face with his paws. But he accidentally pawed my eye.

“At first it didn’t really hurt but my eye was stinging and when I looked in the mirror the left side was bright red.

“I went to the opticians and they told me there was a small lump on the eye. They put me on antibiotic drops but over the next few days, things weren’t improving.”

Doctors told her she had been left with a cyst that may never go away.
