EastEnders airs shock twist as a dead body is found in first ever flashforward scene

EastEnders have aired a huge shock twist tonight - as a dead body was found in a special flashforward scene.

There are some huge episodes ahead for the BBC One soap, with a number of storylines kicking off this evening. Tonight's episode started as normal, as the women of Walford gathered in the pub for a last round of drinks.

Each woman - Denise (Diane Parish), Kathy (Gillian Taylforth), Linda (Kellie Bright), Sharon (Letitia Dean), Stacey (Lacey Turner) and Suki ( Balvinder Sopal ) - was seen experiencing their own big storyline during the episode.

Kathy supported Linda when she found out Shirley had been with Dean Wicks, Denise and Jack had a row before she propositioned Ravi. Sharon and Keanu fell out after she found out he had a fling with Sam, whilst Stacey was still struggling from Ryan's departure and Suki and her husband Nish expressed their interest in purchasing Mick's half of The Queen Vic under Sharon's nose.

However, at the end of the episode, fans were stunned to see the six women standing over a dead body in a flashforward scene from Christmas 2023. It has not been revealed who the identity of the dead man is.

In the special first of its kind scene for the BBC soap, a Christmas tree was shown with a spread of food and a wedding cake on display. As the camera panned across the room, a worried Linda was seen staring straight ahead with a shocked look on her face. She held onto the counter to steady herself as it was revealed there was a man dead on the floor.

The camera then moved to Suki and Kathy, who looked at the body, whilst Stacey, with her hands covered in blood, stared at the body too. Denise was shown holding a broken champagne bottle, her hands shaking, as Sharon knelt down to see if the person was alive. Wearing what appears to be a wedding dress, she too had blood on her.

Nothing gives away who the man might be, only that he is wearing a suit too, with some jewelled cufflinks.

Sharon remarked to the others "he's dead", before the theme tune played out. But what does this discovery mean for the residents, who is dead and who is responsible for their demise?

Whoever it is, the episode has kicked off some major storylines for the six women - Denise, Kathy, Linda, Sharon, Stacey and Suki - going forward, with all set to be revealed this Christmas in a huge storyline to end the year.

Soap boss Chris Clenshaw previously teased of the huge episode: "We’re all incredibly excited for Monday’s episode with six of Walford’s leading ladies at the fore. What may seem like a regular day in Walford soon takes a twist.

"What transpires for each and every one of them is that in a flash everything changes. This episode will leave the audience with a lot of questions and, what may seem like the end, is only just the beginning of some very big storylines that will play out this year."
