East Midlands Airport has issued a warning over Download Festival traffic after severe delays were caused. East Midlands Airport posted an update at 1.21pm on Thursday, June 8, over the disruption caused to motorists by Download Festival.
Many revellers on their way to the rock festival in Donington Park near Castle Donington faced delays of more than two hours on Wednesday, June 7. The campsites and campervan field for the festival opened at 12noon on Wednesday (June 7), with the entertainment taking place between Thursday, June 8, and Sunday, June 11.
"Heavy traffic has been reported on the roads surrounding East Midlands Airport due to the Download Festival. Passengers are advised to plan ahead, allow additional travel time and check with their airline for the most up-to-date flight information.

"Live traffic information is available via National Highways East Midlands." The most recent update on Thursday, June 8, from National Highways said there have been severe delays on the M1 north and southbound exit slip roads at J24 as well as on the roundabout.
Similar delays are being encountered on the A453 southbound on approach to J24. Metallica, Bring Me the Horizon and Slipknot are all headlining the event.
