East Lothian streets ready to celebrate Queen's Platinum Jubilee

Street parties, parades and gala days are being held across East Lothian over the long weekend as the county celebrates the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

East Lothian Council has listed 14 public jubilee events planned in villages and towns over the next four days.n The party starts on Thursday with a parade in Musselburgh before official beacon lighting ceremonies in the town.

In North Berwick there will be a fete in the harbour before its official beacon is lit on Thursday evening and beacons are also being officially lit in Dunbar, Wallyford and Cockenzie and Port Seton.

On the Bank Holiday Friday street parties are being held on Newhailes Avenue, Musselburgh, and Martinez Road, Dunbar, with the small communities of Humbie and Fala holding a jubilee celebration for their residents.

Musselburgh and Inversk Community Council has moved its annual children's gala forward a week to coincide with the jubilee celebration on Saturday as it returns after a two year hiatus caused by the pandemic.

Residents of Erskine Road, Gullane, and Moncrieff Walk, Haddington are also holding street parties on Saturday with summer galas also being held in Wallyford and Aberlady.

Sunday will see a Queens Jubilee party hosted in Musselburgh as the celebrations continue in the town.

Tranent holds its childrens gala day on Sunday and the village of Dirleton will hold a party on its green to mark the jubilee. There will also be a street party on York Road, North Berwick and lunch on Links Street, Musselburgh, on Sunday.

Provost of East Lothian, John McMillan, said: “On behalf of East Lothian I would like to extend our congratulations and warmest wishes to Her Majesty The Queen on the occasion of her Platinum Jubilee.

"For the majority of people in the UK she has been the only monarch they have ever known and she is the first ever to achieve the tremendous milestone of 70 years of public service.

"I hope the weather is kind for the local residents and communities who are planning celebrations this weekend.”
