A swimming pool in East Lothian had to be closed off to the public yesterday (March 30) - due to a poo in the water.
The pool area was sealed off and a thorough deep clean was carried out after a bather suffered an ‘accident’ in the water at the Mercat Gait Centre in Prestonpans, East Lothian.
The messy incident forced the closure of the 25 metre competition pool at around 2 pm forcing a process that sees the water filtrated three times for it to be safe for visitors to swim in again.

The cleansing process takes around 18 hours meaning the pool remained closed yesterday afternoon but is expected to reopen on Friday morning.

A Mercat Gait Centre spokesperson said: "Unfortunately, we have had an incident in the pool this afternoon that means we will not be able to allow customers to swim for the next 18 hours.
“This means the pool will be closed until Friday morning at 10am.
“We apologise for any inconvenience.”

A second said: “I didn’t know they had a log flume at this pool.”
And a third added: “Can remember when they just scooped them out with a net and we carried on swimming.”
