A long-established East Lothian law firm has been given the go ahead to expand its North Berwick offices into the shop next door.
Paris Steele, which has provided legal services in the county for nearly 100 years, have been granted planning permission to change the use of the neighbouring shop on Westgate to office space.
The firm which provides legal and estate agency services, and the shop are both on the ground floor of a Category-C listed building.
Currently Fingers and Thumbs Arts and Crafts Centre is based in the shop side of the building.
A report by East Lothian Council's planning officers revealed no objections to the change of use had been lodged.
It said:" The proposed use of the existing shop ground floor component of the building as an office is a use typically associated with the mixed commercial uses of a town centre and would not be incompatible with the particular mixed uses of this part of North Berwick Town Centre.
"The ground floor of the building would remain in commercial use and as such the proposed change of use would not result in the loss of an existing town centre or commercial use at ground floor level and would not impact on the vitality and viability of North Berwick Town Centre.
"Given that no external alterations are proposed to the building to facilitate the proposed change of use, the proposal would not impact on the character or appearance of the conservation area or on the external appearance of the Category C listed building"
