The arrival of a new town and loss of a veteran campaigner will all play a part when residents of Preston, Seton Gosford ward, known locally as PSG, go to the polls for East Lothian Council elections.
Former council leader Willie Innes, who served the ward for three decades, lost his battle with cancer last October sparking a by- election which saw teacher Colin Yorkston take over his seat.
Mr Innes was a veteran Labour man and one of four councillors representing the ward. His successor Mr Yorkston, a fellow Labour party member, will hope Labour support remains strong in the ward which returned two Labour councillors in 2017 while the SNP lost one seat to the Scottish Conservatives as the council's youngest councillor Laclan Bruce won a seat.
Mr Bruce, currently leader of the opposition, is defending his seat along with SNP councillor Neil Gilbert. However the fourth councillor, Labour's Fiona O'Donnell has announced she is stepping down.
The ward has four councillors in total covering its different communities which stretch from Prestonpans to Longniddry and this year includes the first residents of the new town of Blindwells. Whether the new town residents will change the dynamic of the ward remains to be seen.
One topic which remains high on the PSG ward agenda is the future of the former Cockenzie Power Station site, which is currently owned by East Lothian Council.
With some in the community keen to see jobs return to the site, others are keen for an emphasis on leisure and 'green energy'.
2017 results
In 2017 the first four candidates to cross the line and take the seats saw a widespread split of the vote as over 51% of voters turned out.

2022 Candidates
At just 22 years old Brooke Ritchie, Labour candidate, aims to continue the tradition of PSG providing the local authority with its youngest representatives.
Councillor Lachlan Bruce who is restanding for the Conservatives in the ward was the youngest when he won his seat in 2017 in his early twenties.
Now Brooke, a former headgirl of Preston Lodge High School, Prestonpans, hopes to follow in his footsteps.
Brooke, who is a student at St Andrews University was selected to represent East Lothian Labour group in PSG alongside sitting councillor Colin Yorkston, an Edinburgh school teacher.
Councillor Neil Gilbert, a former police officer, is restanding for the SNP and will be joined by community councillor Janis Wilson, as the party's candidates for the ward.
Local storyteller and author Tim Porteous, who has a popular column in local paper the East Lothian Courier is standing for the Scottish Green Party while the Scottish Liberal Democrats have Ben Morse, who works at Edinburgh University standing, and the Alba Party is also aiming for a seat with local candidate Paul Brown.
