East Kilbride coach Allan Steel will step down from the role after Saturday’s final Tennent’s West League 1 clash at home to Cambuslang.
A win will move the Torrance House club up to fifth in the table, but Steel says it’s a game that is essentially meaningless to both clubs. And he just wants to get to the end of a frustrating season and move on.
Steel has been at East Kilbride since he was a youngster and has been a coach for 10 years, saying: “It has just became time to move on. I’m a bit unsure about how I feel, but it’s just the way it is.
"With it being my last game as coach as well, I’m excited to get it out of the way. We have an agreement that me and my coaches are leaving and there are other people coming in. It’s a bit of fresh blood, so that’s how it’s going to work out.
“I’ve been at East Kilbride since I was four but I’ve been coach for about 10 years, maybe. It’s a game we need to play to get the fixtures done. It doesn’t mean anything to both clubs, but we just want to go and win it.
However, he says he’s not entirely severing ties with Torrance House when the curtain falls on this campaign.
He added: “I’ll take a step back, help out when I can and see how they progress from here, and see what happens.”
On the clash with Cambuslang, Steel said: “We’re excited for the game. We’re low on numbers, there are a lot of guys on holiday, a lot of guys who are in Seville [for Rangers’ Europa League final], so we’ll see what we’ve got, come Saturday, to play the game and fulfil the fixture.”
Steel’s final game in charge of East Kilbride is a 2pm kick-off at Torrance House on Saturday.
