East Kilbride return for pre-season training as transfer kitty 'running dry'

East Kilbride return for pre-season training tonight and Kevin Rutckiewicz isn’t giving up hope of adding to his squad.

The Kilby gaffer admits the “well is running dry” having splashed his transfer kitty on nine new signings so far this summer.

Kilby have brought in defenders Jonathan Page, Conor Morgan, Billy Mortimer and Stephen Bronsky, as well as midfielders Gary Miller, Andy Black and Ronan Hughes, along with goalkeeper Jack Ruddy and striker Bob McHugh.

But as the squad prepares to report for their first session ahead of the new 2022/23 campaign - which will be held at Strathaven Rugby Club as the K-Park pitch is relaid - Rutkiewicz feels he could still do with ‘one or two more’ fresh faces.

He said: “I’m a greedy sod so I’d like to keep going, but the well will run dry, that’s for sure.

“We are determined to get one or two players in each position and what we have got as well is some really good young players, and we are looking to utilise them, there’s no doubt about that.

“We’d still like a midfielder/defender to bolster things a bit. Someone who can float between both roles.

“If one presents themselves then that would be great.

“I’d say we would like one or two more but we are getting to the end of our budget now, there’s no two ways about it.

Ronan Hughes (left) and Stephen Bronsky will team up at East Kilbride this season, having played against either other for Accies and Edinburgh City (SNS Group)

“But we are happy with what we’ve achieved. Our hit rate has been pretty good and we’ve done most of the business we wanted to do.

“Now it’s all about getting them together on Thursday.

“The easy bit is signing the players, but getting them on the same wavelength over the next few weeks is going to be key.

“Get the camaraderie going and all the things you need to be successful.

“We’ll be in on Thursday, get the boys introduced. There won’t be many more players coming through the door now so the boys can get to know each other pretty quickly.”

As well as new signings, defender BJ Coll, midfielder Neil McLaughlin plus strikers Cami Elliot and Joao Victoria have all re-signed.

And five youngsters have been promoted from the under-21s - Ross Taylor, Ross Smith, Aidan McDonald, Aidan Fellowes and Reece McGuire.

Last night former Falkirk captain Miller became the club's latest signing. The 35-year-old made 37 appearances for The Bairns last season and brings a wealth of experience following spells at Ross County, St Johnstone and Plymouth Argyle during his career..
