Tornados are spawned from powerful thunderstorms and can reach speeds of 300 miles per hour. Gary Alexander Devine told Glasgow Live he spotted it while taking the bin in around dinner time.

He explained: "It was just as the thunder started to hit before 5.30pm. It's the first time I've ever seen anything like it and I've been here my whole life.

"I thought I was just seeing things but my partner had just got out of his car as well and seen it as well and we just stood staring at it. We were waiting for the emergency alert.

"It reminded me of water going down a plug hole at first, the clouds got darker and it just gradually got longer and longer and you could see it spiraling back and forth, moving about like a snake, thought for a moment it would touch down but it lasted maybe five minutes or so and the clouds began to clear when there was more thunder and it began to rain a little."

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms in Glasgow and surrounding areas. They have warned of flooding, lightning, hail, and strong winds.

ScotRail has been forced to suspend some services due to flooding meanwhile Glasgow Subway has closed West Street Station and SWG3 was forced to cancel Bongo's Bingo due to the adverse weather.
