East Kilbride residents are being given a say in how to improve the town centre.
A consultation has begun to allow people to give feedback on the next stage of development of cycling and walking routes in the centre of East Kilbride.
South Lanarkshire Council has been given funding through Sunstrans Places for Everyone to invest further into the town centre’s active travel network.
The consultation forms part of this and will see funding being injected into walking and cycling routes on Churchill Avenue.
Churchill Avenue was identified as a priority for the town centre and the wider area through a previous consultation for the Active Travel Study for East Kilbride.
The development will see a new segregated cycle route from the Queensway to Whitemoss Avenue as well as new and improved crossings and pedestrian facilities.
Active travel refers to cycling, walking, using public transport and other alternatives to travelling by car.
Travelling actively offers a range of benefits including promoting health, communities becoming connected, reduced traffic congestion and better air quality.
People can have their say in the plans, the consultation closes on March 30 and can be accessed here.
Places for Everyone is funded by Transport Scotland and aims to deliver walking, wheeling and cycling improvements across the country.
There are currently over 200 projects at various stages of development, from multi-million pound transformations in Scotland’s cities to new walking routes in small communities.
