East Kilbride FC pay tribute to 'gifted' ex-player Adam Strachan after sudden death at 35

Shocked teammates have paid tribute to former East Kilbride FC player Adam Strachan who was tragically found dead on Sunday, aged 35.

The talented midfielder started his senior career at Partick Thistle in 2004, and played for several clubs, including Albion Rovers, Clyde, Arbroath, Ross County and Clydebank before moving down the leagues to play for junior sides, signing for East Kilbride in the Lowland League in 2016.

At 19, Adam played in Partick’s first team, starring in Scotland’s top flight and was regarded as one of the country’s most prodigious young talents.

But sadly, Adam’s career went on a downward spiral shortly after with injury issues and personal struggles.

The circumstances surrounding the young dad’s sudden death are not yet known.

Tributes are pouring in locally for the Glasgow man described as “an incredible talent” who was misunderstood.

East Kilbride FC shared a poignant black and white photo of Adam celebrating his title win with EK in the 2016/17 season on their social media, and said: “The Club is saddened to hear of the passing of former player, Adam Strachan. Adam was a gifted footballer, as well as a big personality.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with family and friends. RIP Adam.”

“Absolutely gutted at this.

“The guy was seriously misunderstood and one of the best players I ever played with.”

He added: “I just had the pleasure of playing with him for a couple of years. As a fellow winger I learned a lot.

"The guy had ability and levels I couldn’t get near… such a great character to have around the place as well.”

Cumbernauld Colts manager and former EKFC player David Proctor said: "RIP Adam. Such a shock at a young age. Thoughts with his family at this sad time."
